1.5" Japanese Bridle Quick Release Belt
1.5" Japanese Bridle Quick Release Belt
This gorgeous, waxy, vegetable tanned bridle leather from Japan weighs in at an impressive 12-13oz, making this the thickest leather that I offer (excluding some limited releases). This leather is tanned in Italy and then dyed and finished with waxes by Himeji craftsmen in Japan. It is hard for me to describe this leather as anything but sumptuously buttery. Despite its thickness, it is surprisingly soft! The wax content gives it a soft and streaky vibe, but the wax will wear off with use and the color will increase in vibrancy.
Available in Black, Natural, Chocolate and Navy. The natural will age as you would expect it to, darkening dramatically over time. The chocolate will very quickly develop a much deeper tone with wear, as the wax wears off you will start to see it turn into a darker and darker chocolate color (new patina pics just added, courtesy of Grant from @the.arcuate on instagram). Navy will age similarly, the wax has a lightening effect, so as it wears off, the color will deepen.
Sadly the Navy and Chocolate colorways have been discontinued by the tannery, I have a few hides on hand but when they sell out, they will not be re-stocked.
Pair with my Patented Double Prong Quick Release Buckle, or the original Single Prong Quick Release Buckle that has been around for 200+ years.
All quick release belts are made with teardrop holes, which besides the aesthetic difference, will allow the buckle to lie slightly more flat than a round hole, due to the oblong shape of the hole. Hardware will be secured with Pigeon Tree branded rivets for the brass hardware option, while black nickel will be stitched with tonal thread, and nickel will be secured with nickel Chicago screws.
Note about leather size- these Japanese bends can be quite short. For belt measurements above 38" please contact me before ordering to confirm inventory availability.
Please follow the detailed sizing instructions here. It is normal for the measurement to be several inches larger than your waist or tagged jean size. If you have any doubts, please reach out to me with any questions.
